Additional SEND Classrooms at Brackenwood Infant School - Resource Base

Our SEND Provision Vision

At Brackenwood Infant School, our SEND provision offers a calm, nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels happy, secure and safe. We provide fun, stimulating and appropriately challenging learning experiences that enable children with additional needs to grow as resilient, confident and increasingly independent learners.

We place a strong emphasis on developing communication, social interaction and life skills, ensuring every child understands their place within the school community and feels empowered to contribute positively to the world around them. Working closely with governors, staff and families, we strive to ensure that by the time our children leave us, they have made strong progress towards their EHCP outcomes and are able to:

●      Develop clear communication skills that allow them to express their wants, needs and ideas using verbal, visual or alternative methods suited to them.

●      Grow in independence, including managing daily routines, making choices and completing personalised tasks linked to their EHCP targets.

●      Build positive social interaction skills such as turn-taking, sharing, joint attention and engaging meaningfully with peers and adults.

●      Strengthen emotional regulation through strategies that help them recognise, communicate and manage their feelings safely and effectively.

●      Apply learning in functional, real-life contexts, developing early literacy, numeracy and problem-solving in ways that reflect their personalised goals.

●      Form meaningful relationships, gaining confidence in group situations and building friendships that enrich their school experience.

My name is Gina MacGregor, and I am privileged to lead our SEND classrooms here at Brackenwood Infant school. I have over 12 years of experience working in a variety of SEN schools across the Wirral, and as a very proud mum, I truly understand the importance of nurturing each child’s unique strengths and supporting them to thrive.

Our classrooms are designed to support children with Autism and Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN). Pupils joining us have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) with primary needs relating to Autism and/or SLCN, and follow a pre-formal or semi-formal curriculum pathway. Our pathways focus on developing communication, independence, and essential life skills, and we aspire for our children to be able to meet national curriculum targets at their own stage, celebrating progress at every step.

We have 20 places in total, with up to 10 new places available each year, and we are committed to ensuring that every child receives the support they need to flourish.

If you would like to talk with me, please contact the school office to arrange a meeting or a phone call. I warmly welcome the opportunity to work with your family and support your child on their learning journey.

With best wishes,
Gina MacGregor
